Mr. Jeremy's class studied the letter B this week. On Friday they baked brownies to celebrate their hard work learning the letter B. They delivered some to the office staff. We were so excited to have a visit from Mr. Jeremy's class!

Our first Iotla Valley PTO fundraiser of the year kicks off tomorrow! We are partnering with American Fundraising Group, and the fundraiser will run through Friday, September 11.
Students will learn about the fundraiser at school tomorrow, and fundraiser information will come home in their folders. I am also sharing the fundraiser video with families so you can learn more about how everything works.

🦎 Axolotl Keychain Prizes
Part of the fun of this fundraiser is the opportunity for students to earn collectible axolotl keychains!
Students will receive information about how to earn the keychains and coupons to return to school. If your child earns a keychain, please send the appropriate completed coupon back to school with them.
We will collect coupons each morning and distribute prizes through our PTO and front office.

We had a great first week, and we are excited to keep building strong routines, independence, and confidence as we head into Week 2 at Iotla Valley Elementary! Here are a few important reminders for our families:
🚗 Morning Arrival
Beginning this week, parents and guardians may no longer walk students to their classrooms. Please utilize our car drop-off line and help us encourage independence as students learn their morning routines.
You may see some families walking students to a separate entrance. These are our Pre-K families. Pre-K students must be walked to their designated door and signed in by an adult each morning.
🥞 Before-School Routine
Students in 1st–4th grades who arrive between 7:25 and 7:35 a.m. will report to the cafeteria. Students may eat breakfast or wait there until it is time to go to class.
📚 Beginning-of-Year Assessments
This week, we will begin assessing students individually in various phonics skills. These assessments help our teachers better understand where students are beginning the year and plan instruction to meet their needs.
💙 PTO Fundraiser Begins Monday!
Our first PTO fundraiser of the year begins this week. Please check your child's folder Monday afternoon for information about our America Fundraising Group fundraiser. Additional information will also be sent by email and notification.
⚜️ Scouting America will visit classrooms on Wednesday to share information with students.

We know our car rider line is longer this year, and several families have mentioned that it has never been this long before. You are right! We are seeing significantly more students in our car rider line this year, and we want to explain why.
Two changes have increased the number of cars coming through our line each afternoon:
We do not have an after-school program at Iotla Valley this year.
Bus 23 is not running until further notice.
Both changes mean that more of our students are being picked up by car each afternoon. More car riders naturally means a longer line and a little more time needed to get everyone safely on their way home.
🎥 Please take a few minutes to watch the attached video. We created it to provide a visual of our car rider procedures and help everyone understand how to move through the line safely and efficiently.
As you come through the line, please follow the established traffic pattern, staff directions, and pull forward as directed. Our goal is not simply to move cars quickly—it is to make sure every child gets into the correct vehicle safely. Please do not bypass the line or create an alternate pick-up arrangement, as this can interfere with the procedures we have in place to account for and safely dismiss our students.
We completely understand that waiting in a long line at the end of the day can be frustrating. We see the line, too, and our staff is working hard each afternoon to keep it moving as efficiently as possible. We simply ask for your patience, grace, and cooperation as we adjust to having more car riders this year.
Every car in that line represents one of our students, and their safety will always be more important than speed. 💜

Afternoon dismissal is one of the busiest times of our school day! With more than 400 students preparing to go home by car, bus, daycare, or with family members, clear communication and consistent procedures are essential to making sure every child gets where they need to go safely.
⏰ Beginning at 2:20 PM, students will not be checked out through the front office. If your child has an afternoon appointment or needs to leave school early, please plan to check them out before 2:20 PM. After that time, families picking up students will need to use the regular car rider line.
We know waiting in the car rider line can sometimes be inconvenient, but this procedure serves several important purposes. It allows our teachers to protect those final minutes of instructional time without repeated calls to classrooms, gives our front office time to communicate last-minute transportation changes accurately, and helps our staff focus on preparing for a safe and organized dismissal.
When multiple families arrive at the front office near dismissal to check students out, while phones are ringing with transportation changes and staff are communicating with classrooms, it creates an environment where important information can more easily be missed. Our priority is making sure every student is accounted for and goes home the correct way.
We appreciate our families working with us and understanding that this procedure isn't about making things difficult—it is about protecting classroom instruction and, most importantly, keeping our students safe. ❤️🐺

Week 1 was incredible!!! We had a fantastic week. A special recognition to Cowee Fire and Rescue Department for keeping everyone aware and safe for morning drop off and after pick up. We are grateful for your service to our families. We are grateful to the Franklin Football players who came out this morning to help open car doors for our students. I love how our community comes together for our students.

While you’re shopping, consider picking up an extra notebook, pack of pencils, crayons, or other school supplies to donate. Every contribution—big or small—can make a difference for a local student! 💙
